A 2015 Michigan Notable Book
"Because survival is insufficient" - That's what makes this novel distinct from nearly every post-apocalyptic tale of savagery. Starting in media res, the storytelling is masterful as character backstories and interconnections are gradually revealed, as is the step-by-step unraveling of civilization as we know it ... and the attempt to build a new one. And the title's roots in an indie comic book penned by one of the characters seals the deal for me. Still haunting.
