The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson

3.0

Glad to finally read this after watching and rewatching and loving the show for so many years. Really interesting to see how it drew inspiration from the book. Of course, this book has arguably the best opening of all time of any book ever. I really enjoyed the creepy atmosphere and the way it played more with the psychological terror aspect rather than traditional horror. I read the first half very late at night in the dark with only a small light to see by and it really added to the atmosphere, I felt quite unsettled. I do wish there had been just a little... more... to the story but overall the ambiguous nature and uncertain ending worked.
