unironically a very funny book, which, yes i know, its a book about a guy murdering a whole bunch women, but every single character is such an asshole and the main guy is such a narcissist and it definitely reads like the writer ie continuesly poking fun at this.

of course the book is very dark (but don't think i have to warn anyone against that) and none of the women have any kind of character/personality besides being
virginal
and about to get killed

(for the exception of madame Gaillaird, who was, of course, still an asshole)

there was also plenty of refrence to like medieval writing tropes but i have to be real honest and say i did not pay enough attention in dutch class to remember anything beyond an obsession with sevens and also
being disabled
= the devil
