Flame in the Mist by Renée Ahdieh

4.0

4.5 stars. This book was not particularly deep, but it was original (Mulan comparisons aside), fresh, well-written, well-paced, and extraordinarily entertaining. I loved Mariko and the backdrop of feudal-era Japan, as well as the commentary on being a woman, and all the challenges that come with that. I read this in about a day and it was a fun ride (but there's sorta a nasty cliffhanger, be warned). Can't wait for book two!
