This story’s translation is sarcastic, dark, melancholic, but immensely relatable. This novella centers around the inner dialogue of a Japanese schoolgirl post-war. Osamu Dazai’s prose is always cynical and to say simply—very depressed. However, I relate to the narrator’s mind deeply. Despite it being timely (post-war), I think this novella can relate to young people of any generation.
