I was so not sold on the first two chapters - I thought we were going to have to follow the rich couple the entire time and I was like you’re KIDDING me… but then they got murdered right at the end of chapter two and it really picked up as the promised procedural thriller! The plot wasn’t terribly surprising - by about the second time they appeared I had nailed down exactly who the killers were, but it was so interesting to read the politics of the different officers interacting and the Pleistocene setting! Plus getting into the motivations was pretty cool and I was
honestly very glad they didn’t kill the Neanderthals at the end
. Fair warning for animal lovers
don’t get too attached to the baby mammoth - I did because he’s such a lil cutie and then they murder him like halfway through :(
. I enjoyed this WAY more than I expected to based on the first couple of chapters and I do genuinely recommend it to anyone who likes procedurals, the Pleistocene, and interpersonal politics.
