Deep Tide is the fourth book in the Texas Murder Files series and it can be read as a standalone since each book in the series feature a different couple as the main characters. 

Other characters from the previous books appeared in this one and if you want to know the side characters better it’d be best to start this series from book 1. 

 

I got to listen to the audio version of this book and it takes quite a while for me to get used to the narrator’s voice. At first, it wasn’t to my liking but after a while I kinda get used to it and I come to like the change of voices she does for different characters. 

 

The plot is a quite complicated, it’s not just a simple murder mystery. The case is actually a part of something bigger. It took me a while to understand and get the big picture of it because of the slow pacing. 

 

I also thought the main characters are Sean and Leyla based on reading the synopsis, however that is not the case. So I was a bit confused when this police detective – Nicole’s POV keeps showing up throughout the story. I wish there’s more background story about her (or maybe there is in the previous book which I didn’t know about). 

 

As for the romance, Sean and Leyla has a pretty instant attraction with one another at the beginning. While it may be an insta love, I still like seeing them together as Leyla opening up her heart to Sean. 

The ending is also pretty rushed, there’s a time jump that I wish wasn’t there cause I’d like to see more of Sean and Leyla being together. 

 

Overall, I have a mix feelings about this book. It takes me a while to get to the point where I like them because of the story's pacing. It also needs more development such as the characters depth. 

I might give this series another try in the future.
