A Study in Drowning by Ava Reid
4.0
I've got a confession... I've finished this book in one day- No, seriously, I'm not well. I'm still reeled back from the amount of shocked from this book that I promise I will continue to write this review another day...
ACTUALLY, NO, I HAVE TO WRITE THIS REVIEW WHILE IT IS STILL FRESH IN MY HEAD.
Effy Sayre. An academic extraordinaire. A literature enthusiast. Top student vibes. But, it's too bad because apparently in this world, women are not allowed to pursue the literature course which is the most prestigious course in the most prestigious university ( Talk about the close minded men geez- )
Like I said, Effy is so so so worthy to be in the literature course but again, she can't. So, she get into the second top courses, which is architecture. The story starts when she sees a flyer about building the design of a house for her favourite author, who has been dead for six month by the way. She was invited to the house since she managed to be chose as the one who will create the house blueprint. And then? YOU JUST HAVE TO READ IT TO FIND OUT!
In all honesty, this book has me sitting at the edge of my seat. The suspense and thrills that are incorporated into this book is cray cray and I mean like WOW type of crazy. It was the first book where I stay for the mystery aspect and not the romance aspect.
Now, don't get me wrong. I LOVE the romance. Preston was *chef kisses*. He's literally the type of men that we want in the real life. Caring and supporting. It's just- this is probably my preferences but I think the romance would work really well if it's being written out in two povs. Yes, I'm a sucker for a man that loves his woman. But- there's a big BUT- the fact that I really really adore Preston and his words to Effy and basically his vibes just show how amazing the author wrote about him. Like I could see the potential fictional husband that he could be.
Let's go back to the main point which is this story itself. The main thing that made me adore this story is the fact it talks about ocean and how dangerous but lovely it is. I am in awe everytime Ava mentioned about the ocean because I LOVE THE OCEAN. It really opened up my mind about the true nature of the ocean.
I come up with 4 hearts because there are a bit of plot holes and I don't like the ending- I know, it's pretty petty of me but I'm sure there's more to be said... I think I need to reread this again to be more sure of my review. And maybe I might write a review with more detail because gosh guys, this book is really really good in a way that would not let you put it down to do other work.
Lovely things in A Study In Drowning :
• Effy Sayre and Preston Héloury
• The writing
• Rivals to lovers
• Effy Sayre and Preston Héloury again
• The Ocean
• Mystery
• Effy Sayre and Preston Héloury please-
• Gothic vibes
• Fairy tales
• LET JUST SAY I'M OBSESSED WITH EFFY SAYRE AND PRESTON HÉLOURY
I think that's all for now. Don't worry, I definitely would read this again for a better review because man, this review doesn't do my feelings nor this book any justice!
