Huge trigger warnings for self harm, death, suicide, suicidal idealation, hopelessness, etc.
A true descent into madness. Very backrooms vibes. Has some great imagery and body horror. However I had a love/hate with the writing style. I found it very easy to read and visualize sometumes and then others some descriptors felt very odd (the gernade for example) or over the top, hard to imagine. But it was also very beautiful and poetic. Like I said, love/hate.
!!Spoilers below!!
Suddenly breaking the fourth wall, talking to the reader. I didn't like it at first but it makes so much sense. How lonely the MC is. Almost bargaining level of denial. As someone with their own concoction of mental health issues, it is relatable the way the MC begins speaking 3/4 through the book.
I loved the real-life tie-in, the creepypasta elements, and the ending.
The book gets wild by the end, the MC asking the user to decide what he should do, effectively turning the book into a "choose your own adventure". The way I took it was a sort of hopelessness laying down somewhere, imagining different scenarios. It's open ended, which ending is "true". But I'm partial to the repeat. That's in line for what I imagine hell might be like, especially personal hell. Relieving this moment over and over an over again. Taking that step off the train a thousand times. I feel like no matter what "ending" is selected, truly, everytime our Mac opens his eyes he's stepping off that train again. Even the happy ending.
