I really like royal romances and bodyguard romances, mixed together? I was excited to read this!
The story starts strong. I'm immediately interested and there is definitely great humor in there that makes me curious for the author's other works.
Now, this is apparently based on characters from a show I haven't seen. I also haven't read the first novella in this series, so I went into this with no background. The worldbuilding is easy to understand regardless of my lack of knowledge.
I didn't necessarily connect to the characters, but that happens to me often with novellas. It didn't make me enjoy the story any less and it didn't make me dislike the characters.
I liked the premise of this story, however I do think a 200+ novel would have fit the story better and given it some space to develop. While you can expect fast burn and fast-pacing in a novella, this definitely went faster than I was expecting. Sometimes a little too fast for my taste.
Spicy scenes are usually hit or miss for me. These were okay. They didn't make me uncomfortable - so that's a plus. But I also didn't really feel anything about them. I was rooting for the characters, but more out of habit rather than them having chemistry, though they definitely had potential.
The writing was great, though I did notice the occasional mistake which took me a bit out of the story.
Overall this is a fun book if you're looking for a quick Christmas-themed novella! I definitely enjoyed reading this and I'm planning on checking out more from this author.
