what is certainly a tale of its times, this was pretty amusing to read. much like a classic like huck finn, the protagonist simply moves through life and describes what happens. there is not really a single  story arc so much as the story is botchans life. i’d be interesting in reading a different translation as this one was a bit stilted and used some unique wording
