i like that this book states its purpose clearly, to be a guide for both individuals diagnosed with diabetes and caregivers of those individuals. my father has been diagnosed in the last few years with type ii diabetes, so i have read this book in part to learn how to best be supportive of him, who has done much to support me. i dont know much about his treatment process, but reading this book gives me a better insight into general treatment needs and milestones for individuals who have received a diabetes diagnosis, with information in the book about treatment for each type i and type ii. characteristic of both these categories is a consistent requirement for keeping insulin close to self, either on person or with a caregiver. this is a step i believe my father monitors, but is still good to be aware in case of emergency. there are also descriptions in the book for different models of insulin dose injectors. also included is information about glucose monitors, which can send a diagnosed individual notification of various relevant glucose readings, one being a term i have heard but havent researched called a1c . and some of these aforementioned monitors can even receive messages from insulin-providing devices as to when a dose is necessary to administer. finally, there are a few sections in the book about different co-occurring conditions both directly and indirectly linked to diabetes. this to me provides a necessary example of how distinct diagnoses of extraordinary needs can connect intersectionally to other such needs.
