People enjoy books like this because they love food and love to hear other people talk about food they love. Molly describes food in a way that you can FEEL the melting butter run down your hand as you just picked up the freshly slathered baguette slice. You can SMELL the warm yeast when she describes inspecting the pizza dough. For those of us who love food, we live to not only share the food, but our experiences with it.
Then, she reminds us WHY we love to share a table with someone: it is intimate and welcoming and ultimately how we share life together. There is something incredibly inviting and almost romantic about it. Food connects us and draws those in the shadows out and invites them.
I had not heard of Molly's blog but I certainly will head there after reading this book. Working for a very short time in the restaurant business, I knew it was a lot of hard work but am still amazed by all the work it takes to run a food establishment. You can tell they do well because of their commitment to good tasting food while making their customers feel like honored guests. The details of the business launch forced me to give only 3 stars simply because I wanted to see more food writing. Delightful read. I will plan to head to the blog regularly and if I should ever be in Seattle area will absolutely make a special trip to visit Delancey for a pizza.
