The Legend of Uh by Aaron N. Hall

5.0

Not your typical hero’s journey…

You will develop a bond with these characters as they do with each other throughout their journey. Each one is so carefully created, even their minor traits illustrate clear intention. I’m curious if the author has novellas of each character’s background — seriously! Creating characters that are not only different from one another but also TRUE to who they are is very important to me, as a reader. I appreciate a good twist and turn, but I like reliable characters.

I had a hard time putting this down not because of cheap cliff hangers, but because the writing and ideas keep things interesting (and again, because I cared about each and every one of these characters’ journeys). Every pickle the group got into was a bright, fun, yet also familiar one. Every side quest feels fresh.

Speaking of bright, fun and familiar— some characters didn’t just feel familiar… they were, and this was both clever and heartwarming. I also enjoyed when the author broke the fourth wall. I was able to get to know them a little bit without being taken out of the story.

I laughed, I got misty eyed (tears could have flown had I allowed it), and I was sad it ended but satisfied with the ending. I’ll be recommending this to fans of all kinds of genres, as there’s something in this one for everyone.
