I'm Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy

adventurous challenging dark emotional funny hopeful informative inspiring reflective relaxing sad fast-paced

5.0

This was a tough read but also absolutely worth it. It shares in depth about a lot of abuse so be prepared for a myriad of trigger warnings before going in. The strength alone to write this and share it with the world makes me root for this book but on top of that Jeanette truly was made to write. So inflective, raw, and truly the voice of someone who has been through it. This book opens up so many topics that need to be more widely talked about from familial abuse to advocating for children to have bodily autonomy. Jeanette is so easily relatable and I find a weird sense of power having read her book. She ends it with a sense of maturity and joy for having to have experienced so much trauma and is a blessing to victims voices everywhere.

*Second reading*
I chose this book to be my first audiobook and I’m so glad with the choice. Jeanette reading her own memoir added a depth that made it more enjoyable to read and slightly more horrifying. Plus she reads incredibly fast so you don’t even have to change the speed of listening. Highly recommend either route in reading this one.
