Didn't We Almost Have It All: The Genius, Shame, and Audacity of Whitney Houston by Gerrick Kennedy

3.5

Oh, Whitney. 😢😢😢

This is a 3.5 for me; an interesting and engaging piece of cultural criticism focused on how the media and the public treated arguably the best pop vocalist ever. There are some redundancies throughout the essays that make up this book, and I noticed a couple typos in the digital version, but overall I thought this was a lovely, deeply personal reflection on Whitney Houston’s talent and the society and media ecosystem that helped lead to her destruction.
