Being a short story collection, it's unsurprising that I liked some stories decidedly better than others. Definitely preferred the first half Jealousy stories to the second half Power stories, most of which had a speculative and/dystopian twist. When I gave each story a star rating, it averaged out to 3.85. Rather than rounding down to 3.75, I rounded up to 4 because I listened to the audiobook, and the readers are fantastic.

Graphic: Animal cruelty, Physical abuse, Violence, Blood, and Murder
Moderate: Animal death, Child death, Confinement, Death, Gun violence, Grief, and Fire/Fire injury
Minor: Addiction, Cursing, Infidelity, Mental illness, Rape, Torture, Medical content, and Injury/Injury detail
"Rat Island" is, not surprisingly, not great for folks with a rat phobia.
"Antidote" should be a HARD PASS for anyone with a snake phobia.
