Satellite People by Hans Olav Lahlum
5.0
“Satellite people… They are individuals who for whatever reason move in the more or less fixed orbit around another person. It is a phenomena and that can be found in many relationships and all levels of society.” p121
This is the second book by Hans Olav Lahlum in the K2 series (Detective Inspector Kolbjørn Kristiansen), and continues his homage to Agatha Christie in true whodunnit style with a little Nordic Noir flavouring. Lahlum absolutely has done the genre proud and in Satellite People has established himself as a solid writer of classic closed room investigations.
Set in the year 1969, Satellite People (I actually love the premise that this term is based on as in the above quote - really made me reflect), commences with the death by poisoning of the wealthy and notorious Magdalon Schelderup, at a dinner party with ten dinner guests. In a systematic and procedural approach to elimination, K2, once again with the aid of super sleuth Patricia, unravels a mystery that weaves together questions that have been unanswered for decades.
As in Lahlum’s first book in this series, The Human Flies, the WW2 Norwegian Resistance movement comes to light with mysteries resolved and put to rest.
A really enjoyable read. I’m going to give this one 5 stars.
