I'm a sucker for WWI fiction and non-fiction so this book really made an impression on me. It sets a bar by which other novels on this subject should be measured. Everything is right, the tone, the emotion, the historical details - this is Mr. Faulks best book by far for me, but it is not that his other novels are bad in any way, its just that this one is the gold standard that anything else pales in comparison to.
