Stephen King's Salem's Lot suffers ever so slightly at times from rambling in areas that could've been trimmed down, and juggling a large portion of characters to keep track of. And maybe the book could've been shorter if the "deleted scenes" after the it was finished was taken out to lessen the length. However keep that separate side story in there that goes back centuries, that was really good!
Elsewhere the book really excels with its atmosphere and building suspense. I really loved the early chapters of the vampire only subtly making its presence felt, posing as a man to lure in folk through powerful, red, manipulative eyes. Eyes that make death feel oh so good. And the main characters were very cute and easy to root for!
I was slightly hoping to have another banger of a Stephen King book to scream about, but the end result is satisfying enough. Despite some writing choices of King's that didn't always translate well, he definitely has a way of reeling you in. I love me some vampires, really fun read!
