As a collection of short christmas romances, I found these okay. While I couldn’t bring myself to finish the third story I can comment fully on the first two. They were what might be expected, bad boys turned good and love blossoming in a short period of time. However, both stories seemed to have subtle conservatism/christianity throughout. Despite it being irrelevant to both plots the characters were described as attending church multiple times throughout. The second story also seemed to insinuate that the only reason tomboys exist is because they haven’t had appropriate mothering and all girls like this secretly want to be more feminine. Also, as the main character became more feminine, she suddenly found herself spending less time on the job (she’s a carpenter) and more time in the office…all while falling in love, the thing for which she must ultimately become more feminine.
Overall, the leading men were inoffensive and appropriately supportive of the female love interests but they both came off as cardboard cutouts with personalities projected onto them by description, rather than showing those personality traits.
As far as Christmas romances go, these will likely appeal to people who have slightly less sensitivity to those loosely Christian/conservative themes (of which there are many, I am sure). These are also notable for a lack of spice, something I am sure would also appeal to those comfortable with the themes. If you’re looking for a kinda wholesome, very light, holiday romance selection, this is a safe (if a little boring) bet.
Also, if you choose the audiobook as I did, just prepare yourself for some very distracting accent work. This really upped the cringe factor for me and probably docked it that half point, to take these under average.
