Mutation by Robin Cook

4.0

This was a good book and I didn't want to put it down. I understand that Cook's genre is a sort of medical sci-fi and so therefore you have to suspend belief sometimes, but I've read other books by Cook that seemed very believable in present day circumstances and that's what I've loved in general, and this book seemed very far fetched given our current technology. So it's a wonderful foray into an imaginary place where we actually harness what seems like demigod powers over human DNA and fertility, but the lack of a feeling like this might happen tomorrow I suppose is what ultimately turned me off and maybe that's just me being overly critical.

Furthermore as other reviewers have mentioned, much of it did seem predictable, although anyone who says they predicted everything that happens in the last 100 pages is most likely lying. I can't imagine predicting all of those events. The interplay between Victor and Marsha is a wonderful demonstration of ethical and personal issues that can arise from genetic modifications and genetic engineering. Overall, this book is a very worthwhile read and I love Cook, moving on to another of his books called Chromosome 6.
