The Sunlit Night by Rebecca Dinerstein Knight
2.0
Somehow, though The Sunlit Night has been on my to-read shelf for an age, I didn't quite realize it was a love story before I marched myself down to the library and checked it out and took it home. So, full disclosure, it's a love story.
Although there were parts of The Sunlit Night that I loved - particularly the Norwegian colloquialisms, the imagery of the fjords in peak summer, the lack of neat edges - the book on the whole seems underwhelming mostly due to its aforementioned status as a love story (not my jam), and also because the one character in the love story (but not the other!) is not yet eighteen which kind of wigs me out a bit. At times the characters seemed one dimensional, though the author does make up for this by keeping the plot away from cliché. Two stars. Would recommend to those looking for a fluffy love story to read as the winter draws to a close.
