我给反派当爸爸 [I am the Father of the Villain] by 林盎司 [Lin Ang Si]

emotional funny lighthearted relaxing slow-paced
  • Plot- or character-driven? A mix
  • Loveable characters? Yes

5.0

This might be the most biased review I'll ever write. First of all, because I love stories set in the entertainment industry. And second, because Lin Ang Si is simply my favourite writer ever. I love her writing, how silly, charming and loveable her protagonists are, how she explores the different relationship dynamics between characters, and the way every single novel is so interesting and comforting despite their similar settings (as this author mostly writes school drama and entertainment industry books).

I've always wished the books I like were longer. I want to see everything about the main couple, even after the core conflicts are resolved. Specially if they get married, even more so if they have kids. And in entertainment industry novels, not always is the process of publically announcing their relationship and living together throughly explored, so I was extremely satisfied with this one.

Want to see them fall in love, get married and live together? It's shown. Want to see them interact with their kids, travel, go on outings, have fun and be cute together as a family? It is shown. Want to see them go on variety shows, play games together, film movies together? It is shown!

And the best part is that despite being such a long book, it isn't boring at all. I was completely hooked, and every chapter was interesting, cute and filled with sugar.

In the beginning, I was honestly quite hesitant about picking this one up, due to a spoiler I've read in a review
in which it was mentioned that the MC's nephew and the ML's nephew, both raised by them as brothers, end up together as a couple.
However, after reading the novel (and I don't know if I just didn't read everything, or if it was really all there was to it), I found that it was quite different from what the reviewer wrote.

MAJOR SPOILERS BELOW

So, basically, it is implied in the extras that Fei Fei and Xiao Yu do end up together in the original novel's world, after they dream about their current counterparts and see how happy they are, living with and being loved by the MC and the ML. However, in the original novel, Fei Fei wasn't adopted by the MC, the ML died and they were never raised as brothers, having interacted only once or twice. Due to this, to me personally, it wasn't difficult to accept they became a couple. I can't, however, really imagine them as a couple in the current timeline.

If you enjoy entertainment industry novels, with enough face-slapping and cuteness in mix, and lots of silly and fluffy family moments, this is for you.
