This was such a gripping, haunting, mysterious gothic romantasy. The atmosphere really sets the tone for the book.
The main character was giving me fits with how annoying she was, but her character growth was breathtaking. I loved it. She embraced who she was, and I can't wait to read in the next book her growing even more into herself.
The murder mystery was interesting. I think it dragged a little bit, but the twist did surprise me. I didn't care too much for the side characters. Sylas was snarky, and I loved him. Hopefully, we get to explore more of Blythe's character in the further books.
Signa's and Death slow burn romance was the star of the book. I ate up the fact that she's the only person he can touch. How protective he was of her really sets a new meaning of touch her and die vibes.
Book one felt like a standalone. The story wraps up really nicely. But I am excited to where the story can go.
