The Kite by N.R. Walker

3.0

As an assassin, finding out there’s a target on him and that he’s been working for a corrupt boss makes Harry question everything. But in that same moment, he finds Asher, the bearer of the news.

Asher has a hit out on him too, and he’s also supposed to take down Harry. But he figures that if they stick together they can both get out alive.

They escape all kinds of trouble and Harry comes to want to protect Asher, even if he dies in the process. Finally, with help from Asher’s friend Four, they escape the bad guys and bring down Harry’s boss legally.

Interesting story, but something isn’t quite likeable enough about these two mercenaries. Some fights are cartoon-like, which makes them funny, but otherwise, there’s not quite enough to redeem them in the book.

I do like Asher’s lightness, and Four is a cool character. I also like Asher’s dream road coming true at the end, a feeling of home for him, finally.
