Now THIS is how you do enemies to lovers right!!

Hart is a marshal, responsible for keeping Tanria safe from the threat of drudges—zombie-esque monsters that reanimate the dead. Mercy is an undertaker, responsible for ensuring the dead have dignity and peace as their bodies are put to rest.

Hart doesn't like Mercy. And Mercy doesn't like Hart. But unfortunately, they have to do business together.

During one particularly lonely night, Hart finds himself writing a letter to "A Friend." Much to his surprise, the letter is delivered.. and answered by an anonymous pen pal.

As the dangers in Tanria grow, and a local competitor seems determined to destroy Mercy's business, Hart and Mercy find themselves relying on each other for comfort and companionship.

This was SUCH a delightful book. Hart and Mercy's combativeness came with so much witty banter, I was cackling the entire time. If you enjoyed the "constantly trying to one-up each other" vibes of Butcher & Blackbird, you'll love this one.

Megan Bannen drops us right into the imaginative world of Tanria, with an elaborate system of gods (both new and old) as well as the drudges, which I can really only describe as zombie-esque spirits that infect and reanimate bodies by way of the appendix. You know—the spot where our soul is kept? 😂

The Undertaking of Hart & Mercy came highly recommended on Bookstagram, and I can see why. There's constant tension. Diverse storylines. Heartbreak. Extreme heartbreak. Lots of overcoming personal challenges. And of course.. lots of warm, fuzzy love.

AND THE POSTAL WORKERS ARE SASSY ANIMALS!! Seriously, my love for this book knows no bounds. 😂
