So This Is Ever After by F.T. Lukens
Did not finish book.
•DNF at 33%
•Summary: Arek is a wizard, him and a soldier group dethrone an Evil King. Now Arek has a big problem 'cause he can't leave the castle/throne without having a wife/a marriage or he's is gonna pay a big price.
•Actuall Ranking: I will not give a ranking. I only read 33% of the book. I think is infair to give stars if you didn't finish the whole book.
•Literary Genre: Young Adult. M/M Fantasy.
Rom-Com with medieval Castle (someone say it here on Goodreads, I think it's the perfect way to describe it)
I wish I read the summary before reading the book. It said "Carry On meets Arthurian legend in this funny..."I didn't like "Carry on", this really had a similar style.
•.Why did I DNF?.: I associate Fantasy with The Middle Ages or the Medieval Era (between the fall of Rome in 476 CE and the beginning of the Renaissance in the 14th century/1300) and a European Country. An old environment as you can see.
Here the language that F.T. Lukens uses feel too modern. I saw a lot of American Slang. It really took me out of the fantasy world all the time. I doesn't need to be an old/formal English like William Shakespeare, but at least give me something neutral, with no SLANG.
Example:
1) "Fuck you, but fine. Tell me"
2) "My best friend, my confidant, my secret crush"
3) "What kind of backward misogynistic assault-y realm do we live in?....."
4) "Why didn't you find another job?"
"Find another job? That pays well? In this economy?
Fair point.
Did you see? That's really a modern slang.
It wasn't for me. We have Arek and his group of friends, they're all soldiers. But instead on thinking on them as a soldiers, I thought they were a group of Gen Z or a time-travel group that doesn't want to fit in that time. It makes me feel that these characters doesn't fit in a fantasy.
*That's my opinion 'cause a prefer a Fantasy with DARK themes or a Historical Fantasy.
*If you prefer a fantasy modern version: with fanfiction wibes, and some tropes go for it.
#Super fast-paced.
#First Person Narrator (Masculine main character. Arek POV)
#Young Adult. M/M Fantasy.
#Rom-Com with medieval Castle.
#Gen Z Humour.
