The First Taste
By: Crystal Kaswell
Narrated by: Kai Kennicott, Wen Ross
Crystal Kaswell had me at the first chapter! This book is so good, I listened straight through, and could not stop. Daisy just graduated high school and is getting ready for college. Daisy, her brother Oliver, best friend Luna and Oliver's best friend Holden all accompany her on a birthday trip to Mexico. Each knows her crush on Holden, but there is that fine line between friends and lovers, especially when your brother is involved. But things are really never that easy and lines are crossed. And it's glorious!!! Now what do I love about this story? I love the couple. Daisy is a refreshing character. She has relevant issues, and has been dealing with them with the support of her family. It's not easy, nor does she pretend to be perfect and I love that! Holden too has baggage, but when it comes to Daisy, he is so attentive, I was melting! The supporting cast is amazing. Oliver and Luna are there for the duration, the good and the bad, and it's a strength that is felt throughout the story. And lastly, the compassion that Crystal Kaswell gives to Daisy is incredible. Her take on the situation is realistic and needs to be addressed and I love that she has come forth and given it a voice. It's a beautiful love story!
Kai Kennicott and Wen Ross are storytellers. Their chemistry is felt through the story, and I love that they meld together so well. Kennicott has the task of taking on the emotions of Daisy and she includes us in each one. Ross gives Holden that arrogance, yet brings out his soft side. I love these two and know as soon as I hear them, I have that comforting feeling of coming home to hear a good story! Loved their performance!
