The Woman Outside My Door by Rachel Ryan
3.0
Woo! This was fast paced, straightforward, and at times actually very scary. So scary, in fact, I kept waiting for it take a turn toward the supernatural or something cinematic, with the titular woman sneaking up behind the beset protagonist with a blood club raised above her head, lit and shot from the bottom, audience screaming, "BEHIND YOU!!!"
This is Ryan's first novel and it was clear, toward the end, that she has more to say. The story taken alone is well done, but her tone changes as the denouement proceeds. I'll look forward to any more works she's able to put out, thriller or otherwise.
