A Half-Built Garden by Ruthanna Emrys
Did not finish book. Stopped at 48%.
Emrys imagines a wonderfully eco-friendly future; however, a multitude of genders (I counted close to 20!) plays a major role in the text, but they don’t relate to the plot. The MC seems most fearful of misgendering the aliens, not what the repercussions of their arrival could mean. Lots of internal dialogue, philosophizing and conceptualizing without much happening. Beautiful prose, but I think in 10 years this book will feel very much a product of 2022.
