I was a bit disappointed by this one. It’s not my favorite subgenre, but there was something to the intensity of the first book that had me hooked that was just missing in this one. 

Granted this is a much darker read, and I think King treats the FMC much worse throughout the course of the book than Nero did Payton. 

Also, not sure how to capture this in a content warning, but

he fucks her in front of a man he’s getting ready to murder for trafficking women. Then King cuts off his dick and murders him.

I think that was just too much for me.
