The Lie by Petra Hammesfahr

This book was great. I read the reviews before reading the book (which is a mistake) and I do not see why many were negative.
Some people admit that they didn’t finish the book. Well, reviews shouldn’t be written on books that were not finished. Other people admit they skipped through it, and then said the book was convoluted. Well yeah, if you skip details, it might just come off as confusing.
I suspect that many reviewers are English speaking. The book was originally written in German. We all view the world through the language we speak. If you’re reading a book originally written in another language, it is going to come off as different. Some things do not translate. People should branch out of their English-speaking, I-only-read-NYTimes bestseller bubbles, and realize there’s a whole other world out there.
As for the book, I sought it out because of The Sinner. And it delivered just as well. Full character development, mass amounts of internal and external tension, continuous plot-twists and surprises, and a whole lot of things I didn’t expect. The originality alone makes this book worth reading.
