Short Walliams' story about those who look different

Living with his poverty-stricken grandfather and unable to pay to go into the local zoo, Bob looks a little different. Like those in his family, he has a 'funny face'. Bullied for it relentlessly, he only feels comfortable when seeing the other outsiders in the zoo - such as the Blobfish, the world's ugliest animal, with whom he feels a kinship.

Bob is a misfit, one we can identify with, and Walliams makes him a polite, earnest though rather bland boy. The story is a great one though, my son and I found ourselves looking up the zoo's strangest creatures on YouTube as we read, to see what they all look and sound like - an education for us both.

A short story, created for World Book Day, we found this just as enjoyable as Walliams' longer works, with a set of bullies that the author often seems to add into the mix, but a great revenge plot my son laughed out loud at.

Definitely worth £1, and for a similar age range as the author's other novels - ages 6-11.
