The Black Bird Oracle by Deborah Harkness

3.0

Ok, so… I didn’t have a ton of hope for the 5th All Souls installment, but I’d say about half of was entertaining enough. I enjoyed learning about some witch-related history and the lineage of the Proctor side of Diana’s family. It’s the Matthew parts I don’t care for; he’s such a romantasy trope— strong but wounded, dark but loving, blah, blah, blah. And I don’t particularly like what the author is doing with Diana’s Aunt Sarah or how she conveniently pulled Janet (had to look up this character whom apparently we had met before) out of nowhere to propel a plot point. The twins though, Pip and Becca, seem like they could create some future intriguing storylines as does Diana’s education in higher magic.

All that being said, of course, I’ll continue with the series if Harkness does because (1) not every book needs to be “the best” and (2) I like witchy stuff
