Stephen Graham Jones's My Heart is a Chainsaw is a MASSIVE love letter to the slasher genre of old, there are references all over this thing due to our main character being a huge horror and slasher fan. I really connected with Jade and was invested in her story, for me though elsewhere not all the characters were particularly interesting. But they were still fun, mostly thanks to Jade.

Sometimes the writing can feel like it's spinning its wheels with a tad bit over explanation, things which kind of feels like they just happen, which somewhat took me out of it at times. This might be my fault though since I took a long time to finish it. But when it's good, it's REALLY good!

The book can feel very tense when the killer is present which I loved, eagerly waiting for the blade to come slashing down. And the ending is brutal and insane! THAT Friday the 13th nod! I was screaming!!! Overall a thoroughly entertaining book and I'm keen to get reading the second one.
