DNF at 60 percent, not the book for me. Derrick and Jess were kind of just meh together and I wasn't a fan of Derrick's stalker vibes and lack of transparency with Jess. There wasn't much new here, with a lot borrowed from franchises like Buffy (including events and terminology). Not a bad story, but the author didn't pull me in enough to make me care about finishing.  Your mileage may vary, of course. Mildly disappointed because I've read and enjoyed this author before.
