Another 4.5 rounded up for the Stormlight Archive - PHEW that was a lot. WOW. I am a whole jumble of thoughts after reading a 1,200 page book, so I’m probably going to clean this review up once I’ve had time to sit with this book but here are my initial thoughts.
I loved that the action began right at the start and really set the stage for Rhythm of War. I loved that this really was Navani’s book and moment to shine. This book really helped expand the already very complex world and universe, and definitely helped fill some knowledge gaps - particularly from the Parshendi side.
So, what knocks it down half a star? I didn’t loveeee Venli’s chapters, but to be honest the biggest struggle for me was not hearing from Adolin or Shallan for like a HUGE chunk of the book and not getting enough Jasnah overall.
The slow build and avalanche endings are what always catapult Sanderson’s books to the 5 star in my opinion, and I cannot WAIT to pick up Wind & Truth. So glad I decided to read this one right before Stormlight 5 release weekend. I don’t even know if I’m ready for the emotional damage that comes with the finale of the first arc of the Stormlight archives but I NEED ANSWERS.
