DNF @26%. This just continued to get more and more ridiculous in such a way I could no longer suspend my disbelief.

This book is a lot of tropes that are very tired put together in a way I would expect from a fanfiction with the serial numbers filed off. If this were a fic I was reading back on fanfiction.net back in the early 2000s, everything here would have felt appropriate. But as a book that came out in the 2020s this is about two decades late for the era in which it would have been eaten right up.

The worst part is, I can see where, had certain elements of this been non-romantic and the Special Chosen One/Not Like Other Girls/other overdone YA Female Protagonist tropes removed or watered down and the writing style been aimed at a middle grade audience? It would have hooked me and kept me engaged. It would have been something I devoured in no time at all. As it stands, I can't stand this book. I find it to be a hot mess, and I would rather just DNF than continue to waste my time and force myself to get through it.
