American quilts, quilting, and patchwork by Adelaide Hechtlinger
informative
medium-paced
3.5
An excellent source for quilting history. I especially appreciated the included texts taken from contemporary sources not only regarding the actual making of quilts but also the culture. As someone who is interested in quilting not only for its practical use but also for its history it is much appreciated.
It does show its age, however; the way it discusses native Hawaiians and the history of the swastika in regards to quilting is... outdated, to put it kindly (saying that colonists introduced religion to the native population is more than questionable, for example).
