End of Days: The Assassination of John F. Kennedy by James L. Swanson

4.0

I enjoy reading a book about the Kennedy assassination every year or so, to learn something new. Last year, it was the double biography, The Oswalds. This year, End of Days.

This was a good overview with the goal of evoking the emotions of those few days. It also shows the sad way the lives of Kennedy and Oswald intersected on Nov. 22.

You get a real sense of the murder and of those involved, almost minute by minute. How Kennedy was almost fatalistic about dying, with all the tragedy his family had already endured. And how Oswald was delusional, certain he was destined to do something big in his life.

The writer doesn't buy the conspiracies (and neither do I, anymore), so if that's what you're looking for, pass this one up. But if you want to see it play out as it actually happened, you'll find some insight here.

And please don't bother arguing with me about conspiracy - I know the theories, I've read the books, and I left that all behind.
