Overall, this was a fun campy (literally lol) slasher. The characters were great, likable (even the ones you're not really supposed to like so much). Pacing was good. I thought I was going to hate that chapters that switched POVs but it was enjoyable! Reminded me heavily of a Scream movie, a very Scream 3 vibe.

There are a few things that stopped me from giving this a full 5 or 4.

One, the instant romance with Dani. While it did seem to flow ok in writing, it's weird. I get trauma bonding as well but... idk, on a personal level I couldn't get behind Willow and Dani's romance. Love how much queer representation we had but this romance shouldn't have panned out.
I wouldn't mind them working up to this, and maybe that is what happens off camera following their podcast. But there is a lot of trauma and anger to sift through. Me personally, that's a relationship killer. I could never be with her knowing what she did, even if she truly regretted it and changed her life.

There were a few plot holes too.
Such as, I do not believe Bebe called the police the first time. Even if they determined no foul play and looked in Buck's cabin, Bebe said they were combing the woods with the belief they were lost or hurt out there and there is absolutely no way I believe that because they would've found bodies, the preachers cabin and his angels, etc.

Why was there a chest FULL of phones in the cross covered treehouse. Yes, sure, it's possible that these were phones collected from campers over the years who opted not to collect their phones at the end of their stay. But the tone it set for the book led me to believe campers had been disappearing for years. It definitely added to the red herring finger pointing at Bebe but it was a loose end that never got tied up. So it felt placed purposefully for the sake of trying to pull the reader in that direction and thus out of place by the end of the novel.

How has the preacher been living these years? If he's established, and has been this whole time, in the woods in that cabin how did Bebe not know? If she did know this may have been the reason for not calling the police in the first place, she seems very protective of her family.

Kurt had a cellphone, he said he found it in his cabin. Clearly this was left there by the preacher and it's the preacher that had been communicating with him. But this is a huge hole. Where did the preacher get either phone? Maybe from a previous camper? But they both have service? And he somehow knew Kurt's history to impersonate his sister and knew which cabin was his. I get the paperwork on the campers about their histories, but this feels off. No way the preacher has money to keep a cell service going in hopes the right camper joins. He's also considered dead, leaving in a cabin in the woods. He doesn't have the means to feed himself let a long have a working cell phone, let a long two of them. Was Bebe feeding him????

Which brings me to the last point. There was no true conclusion, the ending felt off. We wrap at Kurt being detained and the girls wait for the police to arrive. In most horror flicks we get a true resolution, motive. We get some of that, but I fee like a short epilogue would have been a perfect way to plug up these holes and provide our remaining characters with a better sending off. Maybe Willow is setting up with Dani to record the podcast episode while Willow's inner monologue explains the last how ever many months/years had passed, tie up loose ends, etc.

I also don't like how Willow compared her being cancelled online for something she said to her brother being gay. "Being "outed." Judged. Put in a box and left there. I finally got it." I do not think you do. One is a consequence to something you did, an action, even if unjust or you didn't intend to be malicious, it is a consequence to an action. Another is being judged and violated for just being yourself. They do not even come close to the same thing.
