The Optimistic Decade by Heather Abel
Did not finish book.
As a rule, I finish books. If I don't want to read them at that time, I put them aside for later and come back in an indeterminate amount of time. It could take years.
I tried that with [b:The Optimistic Decade|35489157|The Optimistic Decade|Heather Abel|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1508066439l/35489157._SY75_.jpg|56889530]. I first got it in 2018 or something. I tried to read it a few years later and thought I would like it when I was a little older. Spoiler alert, I'm a little older, and I still can't stand it.
Another review talks about the author's contempt for the characters. I agree this aspect makes it hard to read. The characters aren't meant to be real people, and they aren't given either flaws or positive traits. They exist in a void.
Maybe it's because I'm so far removed from the experience. I've read books about rich white people before, and while I haven't often enjoyed them, I have finished them. This adds another layer to the unlikeableness of those stories. I'm not sure what it is, but I can't see myself finishing this.
