Say Goodbye by Lisa Gardner

Trigger warning: Sexual abuse. This book…. I’ve read all the previous books in the series and I liked them, but this book had me wrecked. As someone who endured years of long term abuse at the hands of my stepfather it was painful to hear the words. There were points I didn’t think I could make it to the end of this book but I’m glad I did. I appreciate the care the author put into wording the struggle and pain of a survivors stories. The world isn’t as surface level as we all like to pretend it is. Everyone’s life and story is different but I truly hope we all never lose sight of the light ahead. We are the authors of our story and no matter the pain we can heal. This story is hard to listen to but it’s actually very accurate to how feels living through the unimaginable and I hope instead of pity or fear it gives a better understanding and that this tiny glimpse teaches us all to value and protect what’s most important to us all. Such a great story by such a talented author. Big hug.
