This book opens and very quickly dives into chaos- Gemma is shot during her graduation and is now in a coma, PI Matthew Hill is just outside the cathedral where the graduation is being held with his wife and young child when panicked people start running from the building. Matthew tells his wife to get to safety and heads right in to help as he calls for police. Matthew is an ex cop and ends up helping on this case at the request of Gemma's parents. I liked the twists and turns in this book as there were a lot of possible suspects (or could Gemma have been the wrong victim?). The end came together nice and tidy while also being a bit of a surprise. I would definitely say that the secrets kept did not make a lot of sense (I don't want to give anything away) but without them, there wouldn't have been much of a plot.
