Leader of the Pack by David Rosenfelt
4.0
Leader of the Pack is the 10th book in the Andy Carpenter series. While I'd recommend starting from the beginning of the series, I think this book would work as a standalone as well, provided you don't mind mentions in passing of how cases from prior books end. Andy is back and as sarcastic as ever. This time he's coming out of his voluntary retirement, not 3 years from next Tuesday as the pool would have it, because in taking Tara as a therapy dog to visit his old client Joey Desimone's uncle Nicky Fats, a well known mobster who has seen better days, Nicky lets slip some information that gives Andy hope about finally getting Joey out of prison. Andy has always believed in Joey's innocence, but couldn't get the jury to see it his way. It's a fun story, seeing all the pieces come together. I particularly love any interaction between Andy and Marcus.
