The setting, the characters, the blend of modern day violence with folklore and legend, the focus about family-both blood and found. This one hits all the marks, well done all around.
There were some Spanish passages that weren’t translated. This wasn’t an issue for me as I felt the context gave me a proper understanding. Listening to the book on audio, these passages 1) made me wish I knew the Spanish language and 2) gave me a reason to buy a physical copy for my reread, so I can look them up on google translate.
