A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness
5.0
Holy. Shit.
This book, though!
I'm the kind of person that doesn't usually get emotional while reading books. Like, my heart will feel things, but physically I'll be fine. This was definitely not the case here. This book left me shaking, crying, sobbing. It pulled me through a roller coaster of emotions with it's stunning visuals, heart-breaking narrative, and completely raw characters.
It's a complex story that explores grief and all its painful expressions. Never once does it fall to cliché. It's a surprising and important modern fairytale that everyone needs to read. It'll make you cry, it'll make you laugh, it'll be a book you'll remember for years to come.
There's nothing I can say about this book that hasn't been said already. If you love good stories, read this book. If you want your heart to be ripped out of your chest, read this book. If you're reading this review, read this book.
