Did not finish book. Stopped at 46%.
There is not one thing that I liked about this book. I feel like I should like it because the main character is queer and so are a lot of the characters but I’m just bored the whole way through. There’s very little plot, I don’t like the writing style, I hate his character, I hate the way he treats other people, I hate how long the chapters are, I hate the way he’s attempted to write polyamory in the most biased, illogical and uninformed way (and that I’m now going to have to discuss polyamory at book club), there’s not one thing that I like about this book at all and I got halfway through.
He’s going on a trip around the world and the character is not excited at all to be experiencing any of these different cultures and he keeps shitting all over the different things that he’s eating and saying that everything tastes terrible or that the museums are closed on Mondays and he’s there on a Monday, and I’m like, Why DID YOU GO ON A WORLD TRIP IF YOU DIDN’T WANT TO SEE ANY CULTURE?!? Oh, yeah, because your ex beau is getting married. I remember, the one you keep going on about every three seconds. It’s won a Pulitzer Prize and I can’t for the life of me think why. I hate everything about it.
