This was an odd book. It feels a little rushed, even though I thought it was a novella. I'm not sure how many pages constitute a novella anymore, books have gotten so long lately that finding a book under 500 pages is difficult.
Anyway, I did like this book. I wish some aspects had been given more time to explore. It felt like half a story, some of the side characters weren't given the page time I wish they had. The motivations of some of the characters weren't shown, most were speculations in a sense.
The plot was driven mostly by dialog, rather than actions. I wish more of the book had taken place in Lord Crevan's house, so those mysteries could've been explored more.
his motivation for choosing Rhea was flimsy at best. He wanted her youth? The other women/girls he picked had something more to offer. Certainly, if he had been watching her, he would've seen that her family would miss her absence, why he didn't pick a girl who wouldn't be "missed"?
I don't know if this is a retelling or not, but it does feel like one a bit.
